What started as a fun project to do during quarantine grew into an actual game platform and a fun way to stay connected with friends, family, and teams — whether you are in-person, or apart. Meet the founding team and learn why they love working for GameApart.

James Simmons, Founder
James is a tech executive and entrepreneur. His most recent company was blockchain voting startup Everyone Counts, where he was CTO then CEO. He led the sale of the company in 2018, in a deal recognized by M&A Advisor as the “Corporate/Strategic Deal of the Year”, and has spent his time since advising other startups and established software companies while looking for the next project to throw himself into.
Why Do You Work on GameApart?
I conceived of GameApart after too many boring virtual hangouts during COVID. I like my friends and family, but could only spend so much time staring at them over Zoom calls trying to figure out what to talk about. Since there weren’t any products out there built for this, I brought together friends, family, and former co-workers to form GameApart and bring the product to life in just a little over 90 days.

Giovanni Hernandez, Software Engineer
Gio is a software engineer who has been working with start-ups since the beginning of his career. He plays video games and enjoys party games with family and friends.
Why Do You Work on GameApart?
Due to COVID, I got laid-off a couple weeks before I came across a job post from James. He explained his idea and it sounded fun. It’s a great way to keep expanding on my skills and staying focused on something besides the current state of the world.

Stefanie Histed, Marketing
Stef is a content strategist, copywriter and editor who has a soft spot for tech start-ups, and has also worked with venture-backed Silicon Valley tech companies, travel websites, health care agencies, and entrepreneurs from a variety of sectors. She likes traveling, whiskey, and vegan food.
Why Do You Work on GameApart?
I worked with James awhile back at an election tech company, and when he called to tell me about his new project idea, not only did it sound like a lot of fun (to both play and work on) but being unemployed due to COVID, the opportunity to build and bring something new to market just sounded like a good way to stay busy and sane. It’s been a fun project and it’s really shaped into something I’m excited for other people to get to use!

Holly Scott, Producer & SME
Holly is a former Apple expert, and she has years of experience in board games. Holly is a collector, with over 300 games available to her and counting. Holly’s games of choice are party games.
Why Do You Work on GameApart?
Being a board game person, and having friends around the country and the world, I am always looking for ways to play games with them. GameApart is the perfect solution.

Justin Simmons, Operations & Analytics
Justin is a Data & Analytics and IT Infrastructure professional with a decade of experience, including serving as an Information Systems Manager in non-profit healthcare and as a Data & Analytics consultant for multiple major media & entertainment companies. He enjoys playing video and board games of all types.
